Why its important to do strength training and not just cardio.

  • Update: 12/10/2023

There is a HUGE misconception that women who weight train will get bulky and overly muscular.

Now, women who want to get super lean and muscular and compete in bodybuilding competitions will get that look by training weights and following a very specific nutrition plan in a very carefully laid out programme over many months/years to achieve the desired look for that industry.

The truth is that most women who train in the gym lifting weights aren’t looking for that aesthetic, and just want to be healthy and strong and feel fantastic in their clothes.

A certain amount of this journey can be achieved by running and cycling and sticking to the cardio machines at the gym, alongside a balanced diet. But to truly target the bits most women want to eradicate, then some strength training needs to be included in the programme.

Building strength and muscle tone through the use of weight/strength training is what gives the desired flat tummy or toned arms that lots of women are looking for.

Not only can the use of strength training get these kinds of results, there is also a lot of research that points to the use of strength training being hugely beneficial in the prevention of conditions that can cause issues later in life.

Weight training helps with building muscle, and fat loss as well as increasing bone density that can start to wane as we age. Having strong muscles, bones and joints means that life can be lived to the full, still enjoying all the things we love well into later life.

At Body Shape fitness in Ely we use weight and strength training to get women of all ages and sizes the results they desire. Through a carefully designed programme and the use of effective training methods we can help our clients get the body shape goals they have been looking for, for years.

We combine the use of free weights and the traditional body weight exercises to target the main muscle groups to build strength and create toned bodies.

Combining these types of training with a balanced diet including lots of whole foods means our clients are fueled correctly, strong and resilient, and can continue to live their lives to the fullest, feeling happy in their clothes and able to live their lives the way they want to forever.
