Over coming the odds - Mandy Knights success story

  • Update: 26/07/2023

Mandy initially joined the Body Shape Family back in 2019. Unfortunately due to the pandemic she had to leave us for a short while but in 2022, she made her come back, this time accompanied by her lovely Husband Peter.

They joined our 6 week challenge together and really got stuck into the training and the nutrition, and made some really amazing changes in just 6 short weeks.

Since her return to us in November, Mandy has lost an incredibly life changing 4 stone! WOW.

We’re so proud of the amazing work Mandy has done so far improving her health and fitness and the strength benefits that come along with regular training.

What makes Mandy’s story even more incredible is that Mandy has MS.

Even with sometimes limited mobility and weakness, she hasn’t let this diagnosis define her, or what she’s capable of. She might take a little longer, or her journey might not be as smooth as someone without this condition, but she always brings 110% to every session.

Her determination and spirit makes her an inspiration to all who train alongside her and the whole Body Shape team.

Heres Mandy’s journey in her own words

‘In my head, I'm 'normal.' I never see anything as impossible. There is always a way. When I learnt to walk again a lady told me there was no such thing as can't. Disabled is a horrible label that people perceive to mean can't. Bootcamp to many would be an impossible task. It's the type of thing I am drawn to. Nothing is impossible. It just means doing it my own way’

‘Bootcamp has enabled me to achieve things that I would never have done if I were 'normal'. I see it as a massive challenge. Each task is a step back to normal. It doesn't matter how you do it as long as the end achievement is success. If it isn't the first try, then it might be the second or third or however long it takes, the end goal is success, and boy that feels good’

The perseverance and strength Mandy shows is something special and the thing we love most about her, she's a fighter and absolutely won't take no for an answer, if you tell her she can't, she’s finding a way!!!

‘I'm laughing in the face of ms, I'm doing what I shouldn't be. With bootcamp there is never an end. There is always a goal to aim for , an achievement to succeed. Mine is  Burpees. It's a working progress. I haven't yet come across a way to successfully complete a Burpee. When I do, everyone will know it because I will let out the biggest cheer. It won't get the better of me’

Our group of members are the most welcoming and supportive people you’ll perhaps ever meet. They quickly become your friends and cheerleaders and want nothing more than for you to succeed. It’s not competition, it’s just love and support and a few laughs along the way.

‘I love bootcamp because there is no stigma. Nobody else matters but yourself. I have MS but nobody cares that I can't get up like they do. There is no snobbery or macho mania. You attend in whatever gear you have, with or without the label it doesn't matter. A disability? So what...Nobody cares ? you're not letting the side down. Most people I tell I have MS say oh. I'm sorry ? I don't see it like that. Sometimes life throws a spanner in the works and with me it has been MS. I don't own it and it certainly doesn't own me’

We’re so incredibly proud and humbled that Mandy chose us to take this journey with and we are excited for what the future holds for her. Whatever the challenge, we are here for it with her to support and guide her along the way to her goals.
